WHY TRAIN?
To deepen the bond between you and your K-9.
To increase the enjoyment, companionship and satisfaction of the relationship with your K-9.
To provide for the safety and happiness of your K-9.
To develop a good canine citizen for the benefit of your family, neighborhood and community.
To develop a well-behaved family companion.

Training for your dog is as important as schooling for your child.
Dogs, by nature, are pack animals with a well-defined social order. You and your family become the pack and the dog will look to you as the leader of the pack for guidance. It is not cruel to train your K-9. Leadership can be established in a firm but friendly manner.
It is cruel to expect the K-9 to abide by the rules of the household and family without the leader teaching the appropriate behavior.

Every K-9 is different. Some are hyperactive and some are laid back. Some are shy and need more self- confidence while others have too much confidence. Some are serious while others are silly. Many K-9s have some common problems such as jumping on people, digging, barking and chewing or mouthing. Training can help you learn to communicate the correct behaviors to the K-9. Working with your K-9 can teach basic commands and strengthen the bond between you and your K-9. Practicing the correct behavior provides mental and physical activities for the K-9 that may help reduce nuisance behaviors.

Sit, stand, down, stay, walk on a leash/lead and come when called are all basic commands and behaviors essential for the K-9 to become an enjoyable well mannered companion.

Start Training Early
The old saying, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”, is only partially true. It is never too late to learn, though it may take longer because you will probably have to spend some time retraining to eliminate undesirable habits. Training a puppy is easier than training an adult dog because it is open to new ideas and has not yet developed “bad habits”.

Basic class
A basic training course for K-9s 5-6 months and older, aimed at teaching you to train your K-9. Emphasis is on the basic training needed to make the K-9 a good companion.
